Who We Are
The Westport/Aror (Kenya) Partnership was founded in 1982 by a group of like-minded individuals from the Westport community in the west of Ireland who came together to give practical expression to a common Christian commitment.
This commitment stems from a core Christian belief that everyone is equal in the sight of God and that we should all enjoy equal opportunities.
The aim of the Partnership is to provide practical help and support directly to a community in the developing world.
Through contacts made with the Irish Missionary Union and the Medical Missionaries of Mary, it was decided to partner with the rural community of Aror in Eldoret, northern Kenya. The initial project was to help support a 24-bed Health Centre which was already in operation in Aror.
The two communities have now worked together for over 40 years to maintain and improve health care facilities and services for adults and children in the Aror community.
The Partnership is run by a committed group of people in the Westport area who have taken up the challenge to help plan and support improvements in health care provision in Aror.
In addition, the Partnership is working to develop better community care in the Mukuru township which is one of the most deprived and neglected parts of central Nairobi.
The Partnership works to raise funds locally and maintains close contact with the communities in Kenya as well as making regular visits to support ongoing projects.

Reaching out to work with communities in a developing country and achieving practical results have been rewarding and encouraging experiences for the Partnership and those who support it.
This Partnership has allowed a community in Ireland to directly influence the healthcare of a community in the developing world.
In this way, the wider community of Westport has sought to fulfil its Christian mission to help others.
